- Lemon |
| |
Description:
This is a small-leafed, hairy, pale variety of basil with a strong citrus flavour. It releases a lemon scent and a peppery taste when chewed. It is very similar to ocimum citriodorium that can be purchased at nurseries. It is mainly used in Thailand to flavour prawn based soups called gaeng liang or as a complement to curry noodles. The seeds of this plant (that look like oval poppyseeds) develop a gelatinous coating and are popular served in Asian sweet drinks.
English: hairy basil, lemon basil
Thai: mangluk |
