A Taste of Slow
A Taste Of Slow Goes National
After the huge success of A Taste of Slow in 2005, the first national Slow Food festival – A Taste of Slow – Australia 2006, will be held in Victoria from 28 August – 10 September 2006.
A Taste of Slow – Australia 2006; the largest Slow Food event to be held outside of Italy, will encompass two weeks of eclectic and intimate food, wine and produce experiences with an emphasis on taste, discussion and debate, will be held across Victoria.
The program kicks off with a series of Slow Food activities organised by Victorian Slow Food Convivia (28 August – 10 September). From Gippsland to the Yarra Valley and from the Mornington Peninsula to Mildura, there’s something to tempt all tastes no matter which direction you head. Sip local wines and get hands-on with classes in everything from bread making to learning how to build a wood-fired oven.
A Taste of Slow – Australia 2006 will culminate in a weekend (9 & 10 September) at the Abbotsford Convent, the heritage listed nunnery set in beautiful garden surroundings in inner Melbourne.
The Convent will be buzzing with Slow Food experiences for two delicious days. Immerse yourself in a world of Slow Food with highlights including a Slow Market Place with producers from around Australia showcasing seasonal produce and boutique wines; children’s food education and activities featuring Stephanie Alexander and her children’s edible garden; two slow cooking demonstration areas focussing on national and international guest chefs and recipes passed down through the generations.
A highlight of the cooking demonstrations will be International guest chef, Fergus Henderson, of the legendary St John restaurant in London. This will be the only opportunity for the Australian public to see Henderson demonstrating his unique and honest approach to British cookery.
While at the convent indulge in delicious foods at the traditional Slow Food eatery, with food prepared by guest chefs, and taste from a fascinating variety of wines in the Wine Library. Come together as part of the food community and celebrate at the official Slow Food Terra Madre Dinner (Saturday 9 September).
If you’re hungry for knowledge, head along to the series of Spoken Word Forums. Listen to and get involved in debates on the hot topics facing the food industry today including International Trends in Slow Food and the Health Properties of Raw Milk.
