Kate McGhie
Kate’s life is all about food. She produces, cooks, writes and talks about it. She also has a consuming love of travel and combines her two loves to discover more about foods of the world.
After training as a chef and then hotel manager in Switzerland, she has lived and worked in Italy, Thailand and Japan, and the result of her culinary forays has created a hugely rich personal larder. After more than 30 trips to Morocco she is considered an authority on Moroccan cuisine. She designs and hosts bespoke cultural-cuisine adventures for small groups. Her international reputation was secured when she organised and trained the first two Australian apprentice cooks to win gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 World Culinary Olympics in Frankfurt, Germany.
She has won two Australian Food Media Awards and her cookbook COOK went on to scoop major international awards. Her weekly interactive column in the Melbourne Herald Sun influences 1.8 million readers. She is Chair of the International Association of Culinary Professionals, Chair of Judges, Restaurant and Catering Victoria, and has been a member of the Australian Association of Food Professionals for 10 years, the last one as a Committee member.
