Box Hill Institute
Box Hill Institute's Centre for Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CHATS) was established in 1982 with 30 hospitality management students. In 1983 it added culinary training to its portfolio and quickly became recognised across Melbourne and the State as a high quality-training provider. The centre now offers courses in commercial cookery, bakery and patisserie for apprentices, non-apprentices and international students. In addition, there are work-based traineeships and apprenticeships customised to meet the needs of industry.
CHATS' culinary programs are taught by a dedicated group of instructors who have excellent links with industry professionals. Courses include excursions to leading restaurants and venues and guest speakers with a broad range of industry experience. Final-year apprentices complete their program working in Fountains Restaurant & Convention Centre. We pride ourselves on training job-ready students who have the skill and confidence to succeed in any foodservice environment.
