School Programs
In recent times there has been a growing focus on the number of children in the Australian community that are developing physical and social problems relating to the lack of regular physical activity and to the lack of an appropriate diet. A related concern is that many children are growing up without the necessary skills and behaviour patterns to maintain a healthy lifestyle for themselves or their future families.
There are some excellent initiatives that are being developed to address these concerns. These include programs initiated by government, community and industry bodies. Much more can, and needs to be done within the family, community and school environment to improve the health and wellbeing of families and children.
Here we bring you information and contacts for activities that are designed to support schools, educationalists and parent/teacher bodies to encourage children and families to adopt healthier eating and lifestyle practices.
We have also included information on a number of learning resources that aim to develop children's broader understanding about the importance of fresh fruit and vegetables to a healthy diet, the role of agriculture in the community, modern farm practices and how food gets to the table.
This section will be expanded as more information comes to hand and we encourage organisations to contact us with a view to including their materials and contacts.
